About

Our Practice

Our Difference

Because of our size and expertise, we have the flexibility to handle basic and routine estate planning matters as well as the experience to help clients navigate the sophisticated and complex plans they may require.

Who We Serve

Our clients come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We serve individuals, couples and families looking for basic estate planning documents, as well as heads of families who are seeking sophisticated advice regarding multi-generational family wealth transfers. A large part of our practice involves representing individual and corporate Trustees and Personal Representatives in settling decedent trusts and estates following a death, as well as handling related income tax, transfer tax and fiduciary tax matters. Other clients include senior executives, entrepreneurs in need of business continuation planning and individuals who have non-U.S. assets or beneficiaries.

Beyond individuals, MGD Law also represents banks and trust companies with regard to their fiduciary duties and complex matters involving trust law, and nonprofit and philanthropic organizations with their governance, donor-relations and compliance issues.

MGD Law History

MGD Law Firm was formed in 2018 when Lisa’s existing firm, The Lisa D. McLaughlin Law Firm, LLC, and Beverly’s existing firm, McCarter & Greenley, LLC, joined practices.

McLaughlin and Greenley were joined by Adrienne J. Davis, who has over 20 years of experience in both private practice estate and wealth planning, as well as in-house expertise from her years as a local trust company’s in-house senior trust counsel. Adrienne is also an adjunct professor of Estate Planning at St. Louis University Law School.

Our Approach

Here’s how we help our clients:
  • We listen.
We believe in getting to know you better, to see how your estate planning fits your unique situation, and how it needs to flexibly adapt through future life changes to continue to carry out your goals for the benefit of your loved ones.
  • We guide.
We support and advise you as you work your way through the planning process and provide personalized client service.
  • We inspire action.
We help you gather, organize and safekeep the information about your assets, family and other allied advisors, to ensure smooth transitions when the time comes to implement your estate plan upon incapacity or death.
  • We support.
We assist you in weighing the pros and cons of the tough decisions that are a necessary part of estate, trust and wealth planning.
  • We educate.
We believe in providing clear explanations to our clients: no matter how basic or sophisticated the plan. Through diagrams, written explanations, face to face meetings, or whatever means necessary, we take the time to ensure our clients’ plans are understood and implemented by all parties.
  • We communicate.
We appreciate and respect the importance of keeping you and your other advisors in the communication loop. We pride ourselves on working well with you and your other advisors, and we are always looking to build and improve existing and new relationships.
  • We stay current.
Our attorneys enjoy the challenge of remaining current and forward-thinking about complex estate, trust, nonprofit and tax laws.
  • We see the big picture.
We are proactive with our recommendations, but we also listen to you – and will help you work through when the “tax tail” should “wag the dog,” and when other very important family goals should prevail.
  • We give back.
We stay involved the community through participation in local, state and national bar associations, professional association activities, and nonprofit and philanthropic organizations. We champion causes that we value, including volunteer legal advocacy to improve the law we practice.
